Angelica's Favorites from the Arizona Science Center

While the museum was geared for older children, there were some nice pieces -

Outdoor Water Rube Goldberg Water feature -
Colorful, eye catching, of course scaled high for older children's use. Wess to post the in depth analysis. Just wanted to mention - I liked it!

Kinex Ferris Wheel Sculpture-
This amazing sculpture was put together by a child! Wess and both remarked about how great it was to display a child's piece - and this is what he envisions when he thinks of a maker's space. I love that this seemed to connect learning, science, art, and bring the community in all in one piece. I would have added a whole kinex building area to bring in the hands on element.

Imagination Playground Blocks -
They had three large canvas rolling bins of the imagination playground blocks, which if you are not familiar with are large foam block shapes that can be connected through holes and pool noodle like shapes. The basic premise is that they are playground in a box, great for imaginative play and gross motor play. They take up a lot of room! In the museum they were used as part of the gallery dedicated to building. Nice tie in!

Brain Tie in boards -
In the W.O.N.D.E.R. gallery area, filled with exhibits (boards with lots of text) about the human body was as area dedicated to the brain. There were several interesting (to us anyway!) boards with brain facts: baby's brain (by age 3 - 80% of the brain is formed), language formation, autism, and teen brain formation. There was also an area with a large brain where children could push a button to see areas light up in response. This mimics what is actually happening in our brains.
